Jackson part isn't necessarily a big deal but we acquired a reliever that isn't particularly good. He's given up 7 homers in about 30 innings. Not sure this improves the team at all.

Leone has 33 K's in 30.2 innings pitched this year.  WHIP is 1.239.  He's experienced, lifetime ERA 3.75.  Not exciting but provides depth, that's more than Jackson provides.

Exactly. 

Jackson hadn't really taken that next step, hadn't shown a marked improvement in any one area over what he did last year walk/K rates didn't really move much, he's Ked a bit more but most of the improvement has been in batting average which really isn't predictive. 

It's just a case of Leone being your typical waiver wire to 2-3 mil a year RP.

It makes very little sense to me. Then again, we traded a first round pick after half a season as part of a salary dump so... yeah.
