The good news is, Stradling apparently follows you on Twitter.

not sure that’d qualify as good news

and I’m pretty sure he’s part of the contingent of people that don’t follow me on Twitter, yet always reply to my tweets.

Nevin is still employed because Arte was gonna sell the team, until he didn’t.

And by the time he decided not to, it was too late to make a change.

Also, has Perry praised Nevin’s in-game managing or analytic thinking? All I’ve seen is stuff like “he holds players accountable” and “the guys like him.” Another factor, of course, is they were together in Texas.

He literally fired a World Series winning manager last year. This is a do or die season.  You don’t think they’d fire Nevin?  The fact that he’s still employed tells you that they are on the same page.

I don’t think they’d fire Nevin, no.

Maddon was still employed during all of 2021 despite him and Minasian not being on the same page.

Nevin is fine. Not gonna win games when the offense stops hitting for at least half of every season

Right on. I doubt Nevin tells them to try to hit a tape measure shot every AB possible with RISP. Fix that or season is over. This team doesn't have Tampa Bay pitching. Score more runs or lose, period.

And a lot of the weird bullpen decisions are due to that bullpen availability matrix that basically ties his hands in key situations

Watching the angels fans on social media and to some extent this website oscillate between insisting that the Angels have actually GOT GUD this year and HUUUURR DUUUUR FIRE EVERYONE every 3/4/5/6 days is actually a lot more fun than watching the team.  I don’t know what that means.  Probably nothing good vis a vis the Angels actually getting somewhere this year.  <shrugs>

Yeah that's accurate. That would be us overreacting to the first glimmer of hope like a 5 game winning streak since there's been NOTHING good for nearly a decade. So we get worked up until we realize wait wait maybe this is actually still just a .500 team. This team is inconsistent as shit so they so it happens for that reason generally.

If the expectation is the bullpen must toss 4 shutout innings every time the starter drags his ass through only 5 innings then you don't understand what points of failure mean. The expectation that guys that aren't good enough to start will outperform their talents for extended outings is misplaced. These guys will give up runs, they are points of failure any given game.

But that isn't the problem, the problem is the Angels produced one fluke home run over 9 innings. That was 9 points of failure all night long repeated 4 times each. The offense was crap and has been crap for too long so they are losing in the batters box more often than on the mound.

On the mound we had 4 pitchers for 9 innings and only gave up three runs, two of which could have been preventable with average defense. But even with average defense closing out the 6th inning giving up only 1 run, the Angels still lose.

Fix the offense.

This team  has been intentionally built to play a certain way. Not random or accidental that the lineup is what it is. They value home runs and power more than anything else.

A percentage of games will be won that way. Often with lopsided numbers. But many will be lost by a run or two because they couldn't generate runs in other ways. Against good pitching, power hitting is often neutralized. And you have to have some players competent at small ball. Not necessarily an entire lineup, but with a handful who bring another dimension. And are good at it.

Neto was a breath of fresh air because he could play that way. Fletcher in his prime too. Even Marsh last year to some degree. Someone like Velazquez may try, but isn't good enough to do much more than try and bunt. With limited success. Of the others, Rendon may be the most versatile hitter in terms of attacking pitches directionally.  But he's always injured or recovering from injuries.

Good pitching usually stops good hitting more often than not. So you need ways of creating runs when the sluggers are neutralized.

Does anyone know if Moose is nursing an injury or dealing with personal issues?

I haven't been particularly impressed with Moose. He has been underwhelming, strikes out too much, has already banged into a couple of rally-killing dp's, and provides nothing special defensively that I can see. Same with Escobar. So far, they are rather disappointing.

First time "vis a vis" has been used on this board?  Props.
