Taylor Ward needs to not be batting lead off anymore. What’s the infatuation?

i get Moniak sucks against lefties but he gives you a hot bat plus good defense

Same. I get the analytical side saying "you should do X because its more likely that Y will happen"...but come on! Moniak is swinging a hot bat and playing stellar defense.

When Moniak is not playing who would you prefer as leadoff? They tried Neto but he wasn't able to get on base. Rengifo is struggling enough as is putting good plate appearances together. Urshela has only batted leadoff 5 times in his entire career. Drury is not a leadoff hitter as well having only 12 plate appearances in his career.

It's well and good to have an objection to Ward leading off but it's kind of hollow without a viable replacement.

Guys, if you take a look at Moniak's stats what stands out?

He has 1 walk to 11 strikeouts so far.

Go back and add in last year and you get 2 walks and 36 strikeouts.

He is living on contact just like... David Fletcher did. He looks better swinging and missing than Fletcher did but it still doesn't put him on first base.

Ward has a respectable 17 walks to 42 strikeouts. That is why he is being given opportunities to play through a slump. His OBP is 75 points above his average.

Moniak's is 19.

You and I have different definitions of good.  His start at MIL was good.  The last 3 was very mediocre and lucky he didn't give up more runs, giving up 17 hits and walking 10 and only 9 K's in 16 innings.

Three runs in 5 or 6 innings, is good. It's not great, but it's not a bad start either.

The Ks aren’t as big an issue as the total lack of BBs.

He K’d once every 4.5 PAs in the minors for his career.

Maybe but is harder to have an OBP much higher than BA you're when hitting .419. It's a lot easier when you're hitting .231...

If you read the second part of my post I was questioning why Moniak wasn’t playing not offering a solution... I’m not the manager of the team lol

Neto did better in the lead off spot than Ward, in my opinion.

Did Fletcher ever hit a Home run on his Birthday?

Edge: Moniak

Yup, exactly this. This is probably the best lefty starter lineup they have at the moment, with the exception possibly of Thaiss over Wallach. Thaiss only has 59 career PA vs. LHP so hard to say how he would do with more consistent at bats.
