Anthony Rendon: The Resurgence

Recommended Posts

Honestly not too worried. His walk rate is 15% and his k rate is 12%. He showed plenty of power in the spring (I know spring doesn’t count) with 5 doubles and 2 homers. I’m just glad he still has an elite approach at the plate and has been fairly consistent at driving runs in. I assume the extra base hits will follow. Definitely an interesting Savant page though.

It’s still early. If this was late June maybe I’m more concerned. Nolan Arenado is batting .233, OBP .280, SLG .310, OPS .590 for a 0.1 bWAR. There is still a lot of season left to turn it around.

I'm actually the most optimistic I've been with Rendon for quite a while.

He's making some elite plays at 3B. He's getting clutch hits with RISP. His outs are "hard outs."

He also has barely played the last two years….he is undoubtedly rusty…

Yeah but Arenado is on my fantasy team, which is probably why he's sucking.

My guy he’s one of the worst in the league with barrels.  He’s not making hard outs.  I guess fine it’s to be optimistic and think the arrow is pointed up.  But it’s probably just as likely that this isn’t going to change. Classic coin flip.

91 PA, so not too worried yet. And as rafibomb pointed out, his plate approach - walks, Ks, swing at bad pitches - is elite, which implies he's going to break out big time soon. Let's revisit around 200 PA. I'm totally fine if he becomes more of a 15-20 HR guy, as long as he's hitting doubles and taking walks. He was never really a big time power hitter - he had 34 HR one year, but no other season above 25.

I would like Rendon batting second. Hitting in front of Trout and Ohtani be a table setter for them. I leave Ward 6th in lineup for now. I think Rendon's shoulder is bothering him and he has adjusted his swing. He is a smart hitter but his power numbers will not be the same.

He's the guy in the lineup I want at the plate with a runner on third and less than two out. He seems to understand the importance of making productive outs. Something that is lacking in pretty much everyone else in the lineup who just swing as hard as they can every time. I think the power will come around.

Does anyone think he’s going to go through the season with a sub 300 slugging percentage? If not you should be looking forward to what’s coming up to push that number up

His mathisian SLG will go up.

That 34 HR season could have been helped by the juiced balls too which are no longer around, except for Aaron Judge.

The question to ask is “Does anyone think he’s going to make it through the season”? In all seriousness, the power will eventually show up IF he stays healthy
