Gameday Thread: A's @ Angels (4/25/23) - Canning on the mound, Rengifo in for Renfroe at RF

Good win against a 4-19 team who's about to move. Lord the city of Oakland is a disaster. To follow up on my last post, I hope the Angels can get consistent pitching and hitting. Fielding goes without saying. With hitting, a little less of the homers, especially with no men on, and much more of stringing singles together. Unfortunately with Trout, Ohtani and Rendon, the Angels seem to try to create a home run mentality. With the different HR cellys, the cowboy hat last year and the Japanese warrior hat this year, the Angels glorify the home run. But homers are hard to come by and singles are much easier and hit more often. Be a team, and string ten million singles together, not these puffed-up, glorified home run hitters who more often strike out or end innings.

Nice to see that they followed my advice and used the base paths more effectively. Taking advantage when the opportunities were there

But overall, a low key, professional win. Some early key hits against a one dimensional pitcher, solid starting and relief. Home runs not needed.

Canning looks like he'll work his way into the rotation as a decent middle tier starter. Impressed that Neto makes contact most of the time and has some line drive power. Kind of like Fletcher a few years ago. Progressing quickly.

Now take next two and get beyond .500 permanently.

Just got home from the game.

gotta say it felt like one of those classic angels vs A’s games where the angels go up 4-0 early and let the A’s chip away at their lead all game and then lose 5-4.

glad it ended up differently!! Leave Loup in the basement and lock it

haven’t been to a game in a few years and I gotta say, angels stadium is a blast. Sure there are newer stadiums with cool, modern features but I still love what we got and it’s hard to beat watching the Angels at home.
