The Angels Position Player Depth (or lack thereof)

Recommended Posts

The Angels position player depth has been horrendous.

Take out the original regulars (Stassi, Walsh, Duffy, Fletcher, Rendon, Marsh, Trout, Ward, Ohtani) and this is what you are left with:

Name
G
PA
AVG
OBP
SLG
wOBA
wRC+
WAR
Luis Rengifo 26 94 0.233 0.29 0.337 0.281 83 0.2
Andrew Velazquez 49 166 0.178 0.23 0.25 0.218 39 0.1
Kurt Suzuki 18 61 0.222 0.311 0.315 0.287 87 0.1
Austin Romine 3 9 0.25 0.25 0.25 0.222 41 0
Chad Wallach 10 36 0.156 0.229 0.281 0.232 48 0
Aaron Whitefield 5 11 0 0 0 0 -100 -0.2
Jack Mayfield 20 63 0.22 0.27 0.322 0.265 71 -0.2
Juan Lagares 10 26 0.25 0.308 0.333 0.288 88 -0.2
Tyler Wade 45 123 0.218 0.271 0.291 0.254 64 -0.2
Jose Rojas 7 23 0.13 0.13 0.217 0.149 -11 -0.4
Jo Adell 22 76 0.216 0.237 0.392 0.273 77 -0.5

That's -1.3 fWAR in 688 PA's.

And this falls on Perry and the front office for not building depth. It's a joke and inexcusable.

You knew Rendon and Trout were coming off major injuries. You knew Stassi has an injury history. You knew Marsh was a rookie. You didn't know Ward was gonna be THIS good. You knew Ohtani was gonna be pulling double duty and be extra taxed.

It’s time for this franchise to step up with developing position players depth.

Haven’t exactly wowed us with finding and developing Carribean/Latin American players.   Can’t do it all through the draft.

Who was even the last successful Halos player developed from the Carribean/Latin America?
