Arte Opposes Raising Luxury Tax

Here’s the thing about Arte not wanting to raise to luxury tax threshold.

He’a already paying Trout and Rendon over $70 million per season alone.

What happens when Ohtani is a FA 20 months from now?

If Arte is truly against exceeding the luxury tax threshold, what chance is there of keeping Ohtani, if it ends up being $40 million plus per season to keep him?

A great chance.  He knows how much money Ohtani brings to the franchise.  He'll just cut in other areas.  We'll have 180m payroll with 3 players chewing up almost 110m of that from 2024 to 2026 and two player eating 75m from then through the end of the decade.

The assumption is that he doesn't want to exceed the luxury tax threshold as an owner, but how do you come to that conclusion?

He opposed raising the lux tax limit, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to exceed the tax himself. He just doesn't like seeing teams like the Dodgers and presumably the Mets going so far over the limit.

He's been top 10 in payroll nearly every year, so lets' not freak out. He'll pay Ohtani next offseason.

Doesn't matter if the Angels can't sell their winning strategy to him. They were able to sell it to Trout, let's wait and see.

Ohtani doesn't strike me as a highest bidder kinda guy.

They have a lot of young pitchers along with Marsh and Adell. Walsh is cheap as is Fletcher. Have closer signed 4 years.
