Watching on milb.tv tonight.  I'll post some thoughts as neccessary.

Alcantara wasn't great but wasn't terrible.  Firm FB/Tight slider.  Pretty rough mechanics right now but they look like they can be ironed out.

Boy the line won't neccessarily show it, but Arjenis Fernandez looked really good to me.  Very repeatable mechanics, FB 92-94, depthy slider, meh change up.  Huge body.  Definitely looks like a guy that can be a big leaguer even though he struggled with the Bees earlier this year.

And of course right after I post that, he blows up in the 5th inning. Ho hum.

Hurtado is the definition of raw. Tall and skinny/lanky, fb 88-91, huge curve that has a mind of its own, decent change up.

Mechanics aren't bad but definitely need some work. Huge wingspan like Weaver but inconsistent release point. Has potential.

You're right on Fernandez.  His size and mechanics led the Angels to sign and promote him almost immediately.

Really been impressed with Angel Rosa (13th round) so far.  Really smooth swing with the possibility to play 3B and he's only 20.

Jose Rondon is seriously a physical specimen.  Listed as 6'1 160, but he must be 6'2 or 6'3 180.  Perfect body.

I hope that in addition to refurbishing the scouting, that JeDi also looked at who we have for development coaches in the org.

Dipoto DEFINITELY has taken a good hard look at the minor league coaches.  He's brought in a few very promising coaches like Omar Vizquel, Mike Hampton and Tim Bogar.  It's good to see him retain guys like Nathan Haynes as well.  

 

The Angels minor league system is on the right track.  It may take a while but the foundation has been laid.

Even if the MLB moves haven't worked out (aside from Vargas, Frieri, and to a smaller extent Nibs), JeDi is paying attention to areas (farm system) that were maybe glossed over the past several years before his arrival?

Alcantara has the biggest potential out of all the Owlz.

 

 

So far he's been the biggest disaster in the system.  Three starts, 8 inning pitched total, 3 HRs allowed, and 25 baserunners allowed.
