Gabriel was the first Rams QB I knew about. Always thought of him as a star, whether or not he actually was -- probably because I was 7 or 8.

He was the QB in the first Rams game I attended; Rams vs. Colts at the Colisseum, 1969. Saw Unitas as well. That was a pretty good first game to see in person.

Always remembered him as the chubby kid who led LB to back to back LLWS titles. Had no idea he had substance abuse issues for a while but sounded like he cleaned his life up. Dropped dead coaching his son’s LL team, brutal.  RIP.

Dude went after Mel Gibson with a vengeance back in the day. He always gave me a Hollywood cheese vibe but man he was an icon in the entertainment industry. 64 is much too young.
