Crystal Cove Beach Cottages

Has anyone ever stayed here? How are they? Looked like a pretty cool setup.

 

When I was at the café last year, they told me you need to reserve them a year out, so I am starting to think about next summer.

 

Any advice would be appreciated

You need to know when the month you want starts taking reservations. Usually it's the first of the month for the entire month (e.g. for June 2014 reservations open on May 1, 2013), something like 12-13 months out. You need to have 4-5 computers lined up, and know what cottages you want. 5 minutes before reservations open, start hitting the refresh button. Might want to try 3-4 phone lines as well. If you don't get anything in the first 5 minutes...try again the next reservation period.

 

Sometimes you can sneak a reservation after 10-15 minutes if someone doesn't complete their reservation or stops the process.

 

Another tactic is go and look every few days to see if someone has cancelled a reservation a few months before you would like to go, especially 2-3 weeks out.

 

Midweek is obviously easier than weekends.

 

Good luck...I know some people who have tried every month and never gotten a reservation and others who seem to have no problems.

Those cottages are hit and miss too so be sure you pick a good one.

You need to put your quarter on a window sill so everyone knows you're next, just like at the arcade.

Red is 100% accurate (I doubt I have ever said that).

 

My out of town kids have tried (unsuccessfully) to get reservations.  The beach is like old-time California, uncrowded and beautiful.  Travel up and down the hill is relatively easy.  The restaurant has decent food, which is a plus.  We go there more often than before, because they finally take reservations (at the restaurant).  But as Red said, reservations for the restaurant are difficult in ideal weather during the weekends.
