I was at a concert in DC last night, and some of the bars around the venue had watch parties - and they were basically empty, just a few people watching the tv's.

The regular season has, what, 2420 games?  And the World Series takes 7 games - that's too much for the casual bandwagon "fans".

It's like a cricket test, taking place over 5 days - very hard to sustain drama and excitement for the casual fan.

I imagine the watch parties tonight will be packed with people who haven't a clue about how baseball is played, but who want to be part of an "event."

Football is always gonna be the most popular sport in America. Baseball should be focused on not having the NBA surpass them. It hasn’t happened yet but the Finals and the World Series are now pulling similar numbers. So that’s what the MLB should be worried about.

 

Im a firm believer that all this shit goes in a cycle. Football will always be top dog but I can see baseball gaining a lot of popularity with newer generations within the next 15-20 years. They just need to do stuff that will attract a younger audience.
