Watchmen (HBO 2019)

I watched the first episode tonight. My first impression is that it can sort of be described as "woke hate-porn." It is intriguing and well made, but it also feels like a vehicle for leftist aggression towards a caricature of the Trumpian "deplorables" and alt-right.

I'll continue watching, though, to see how it unfolds.

It is already unravelling in episode two. People of action shouldn't be rendered unable to act in less than difficult situations.

To be fair in the Watchmen universe Watergate never happened as Woodward/Bernstein were killed and Nixon was repeatedly reelected after the 22nd amendment was repealed.  Haven't watched the show and don't plan to but it doesn't sound like it's a split from the source material where Nixon and his ilk were the alt-right enemy.

"watchmen" always makes me think of "go set a watchman," harper lee's book that was written before "to kill a mockingbird" but just published a few years ago.

It's pretty consistent with the spirit of the source material.
