Guess he isn’t toast quite yet. This is why you give Proven Veterans a chance.

I agree. I know Scioscia gets a lot of shit from this board for his loyalty to vets, but the vets have established themselves, and shown time and again that they will rebound from slumps.

Not saying some of these guys shouldn't be replaced  (namely Calhoun and Pujols), but I think it is best to err on the side of favoring the vet.

I guess us as fans just assume that the minor leaguer is going to be better than the veteran as well.  That is why I am not positive a guy like Hermosillo is a better option than Calhoun or even JMF is a better option than Valbuena, at least with that one we are talking about a 30 year old rookie who had plenty of playing time in Cuba at a high level.  But to assume Fletcher comes up and is just better than Kinsler, year I am not so sure.  Not to mention the moves required to make Fletcher happen are permanent.  So if he sucks at hitting, you basically have to ride it out or go get another guy and this team has playoff aspirations.

right.  each situation is different.  Kinsler gets a much longer leash than Chris Young.  Valbuena is somewhere in between.

He's still not getting around on FBs very well -- but veteran hitters find ways to make it work.    Like AJ and Doc said, this is why you go case by case.  Kinsler missed a little time, was coming back from an injury, he'd done enough in his career to where you had to wait him out a little.  Young..  No so much.  Glad to see a better version of Kinsler -- hopefully he keeps it up.
