I don't think Walsh has nearly the potential of Thaiss, I jut like the idea of his utility being a little more useful to experiment right now. I picture a left-handed Marte-type offensive player who can pitch in a pinch to save the pen.

agree.  although, practically speaking, with the rosters expanding, they probably won't need the 'save the pen' much the rest of the year.  but if he can be a 4th/5th OFer, backup 1bman, power PHer from the left side and pitch about 10-15 innings in relief next year, that would be kinda cool.

It'd be more for his utility next season. But given that he's Rule V eligible and comes with options in a role that could be similar to Marte, I think it'd be worth adding him now, bumping Jefry by the offseason, and using JMF/Walsh, both with options, in the same roles occupied by Valbuena and Marte this year. They'd need another MLB-caliber bat in that mix as well, but with both having options that's a lot more manageable.

May as well test him out some this September and see if his development this year is transferable to a big-league level, because it'll only get harder as Thaiss pushes for MLB play.

  • Ball: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
  • Beasley: 3 IP, H, BB, 2 K - ERA down to 2.73 in 108.2 IP on the year at A/A+/AA

Only DHing this year, but .220/.325/.260/.585 hints that he isn't totally lost up there and in my opinion, is a pretty strong debut  - 100 AB, 11 BB, 34 K, 4 doubles, 4-4 in SB attempts.
  • Robinson: IP, H, 2 K - 20.1 IP, 0.44 ERA, .186 BAA, 0.69 WHIP, 1 BB, 22 K (!!!)

Canning struggling through 2 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 ER. Jared Walsh and Jabari Blash hit back to back home runs on 2 pitches. Blash's was demolished and went about 500 ft.

And Triunfel just hit a 2 run HR for the 3rd HR in the inning

15-20 for them but they are much heavier on pitching than position players

Houston's MLB rotation is already nuts (only 7 SP used this year - two of whom only with 1 GS so far), but take a look at the other Houston SP in the minors either ahead of Sandoval at AAA/AA or on par with him at A+/AA...

Josh James (AA/AAA): 21 GS, 3.23 ERA, .191 BAA  in 114.1 IP with 171 (!) strikeouts
Trent Thornton (AAA): 21 GS, 4.14 ERA in 119.2 IP, with 29 walks to 117 strikeouts
Rogelio Armenteros (AAA): 20 GS, 3.65 ERA in 113.1 IP and 127 K
Brock Dykxhoorn (AA/AAA): 20 GS, 3.78 ERA in 116.2 IP, 100 hits, 36 walks, 110 strikeouts
Corbin Martin (A+/AA): 20 GS, 2.33 ERA in 116 IP, .193 BAA, 33 walks, 117 strikeouts
Cy Sneed (AAA): 19 GS, 3.91 ERA in 122 IP, 112 strikeouts
Ryan Hartman (AA): 17 GS, 2.75 ERA.239 BAA in 114.2 IP with 25 walks to 134 strikeouts
Brandon Bailey (A+/AA): 16 GS, 2.53 ERA in 117.1 IP with a .203 BAA and 133 strikeouts
Brandon Bielak (A+/AA): 15 GS, 2.09 ERA in 112 IP with 91 hits allowed, 37 BB, 128 K
Akeem Bostick (AA): 15 GS, 3.48 ERA in 93 IP with 35 BB, 97 K
Framber Valdez (AA/AAA): 14 GS, 4.11 ERA, 103 IP, 32 BB, 129 K
Hector Perez (A+/AA): 13 GS, 3.73 ERA, 89.1 IP, only 62 hits, 48 BB, 101 strikeouts

?

Really, the only SP ahead of Sandoval in the Angels org would be Canning and Suarez...
The farm has come a long, long way, but there's still a huge gap separating us from the Top 10 farms. We're pretty middle-of-the-pack in my book, and really need this year's draft class to churn out a half-dozen decent SP.

Houston has used twenty pitchers in total this year. The Angels have used 15 different SP alone.

Meanwhile, the Oakland A's have a horrible farm system (especially in the SP dept., their current starting rotation and lineup on paper pales in comparison to Houston as well.)

It's not always as easy as it seems. There still hasn't been a paper champion given a World Series trophy.
