Dominica PM gives harrowing update after Hurricane Maria ravages Caribbean island

The prime minister of Dominica, a Caribbean island, posted on Facebook that Hurricane Maria devastated the island, sweeping away the roofs ‘of almost every’ resident he contacted—including his own.

It's almost embarrassing watching the Weather Channel give more coverage to the NY/NJ area feeling the remnants of Hurricane Jose and the mighty 30mph winds we are getting, than they are giving to Maria and the destructive path it is on.

I have a buddy who is on the verge of moving from Denver to Vieques, an island off the coast of Puerto Rico. I told him that he ought to make sure that it hasn't been wiped off the map before he gets too far into the move.

About all that the weather stations can say about Maria is that it is too early to tell whether it will make landfall in the US. Never mind that hundreds of people may be killed in the Caribbean.

His plan (if you want to call it that) is to temporarily move to Grenada for a couple of months "to give Vieques time to heal." Reports are that the island was hit with 165MPH straight winds and got pretty much the worst of the storm. Things aren't going to be anywhere near normal in a couple of months.
