The World Cup isn't for another 5 years. The more pressing issue is that Doha is the best hub to fly out of the region. Best wifi in the Middle East, plenty of direct flights to the new international airport at Clark and the hottest flight attendants this side of Cathay Pacific

Qatar will be starting non-stop flights to Vegas sometime early next year.

Seems like a bit of mixed messaging going on here?

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-sells-qatar-12-billion-arms-days-after-accusing-it-of-funding-terrorism/

WASHINGTON -- While President Trump berates Qatar for sponsoring terrorism at the highest levels, he is simultaneously authorizing the country to purchase over $21 billion of U.S. weapons.

One portion of that deal -- $12 billion for 36 F-15QA fighter jets -- was inked on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., when Qatar's Defense Minister met with U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Members of Congress will put up with a lot in regards to Trump. Hell the normally much maligned branch looks comparatively sane compared to him. But they will not put up with billions of dollars going to these contracts in their districts suddenly disappearing because he decided to grow a conscience.

http://nationalinterest.org/feature/odd-man-out-france-could-sell-russias-lethal-mistral-ships-13336

The French were scrambling to find a buyer after they halted delivery to Russia for a pair of assault ships they contracted for. They were looking at South America.

I wonder if Venezuela needs $12 Billion worth of fighter jets.

Yeah, probably not.

Agreed...looks like the department of defense is going about business as usual and ignoring the commander in chief on this one.

They point out that it does not directly conflict with the current regional dispute as it will take years to complete and fill the sale in full.

"We are confident that Qatar can address its remaining issues within this timeframe, prior to delivery," explains a State Department official.

Looks like this contract is contigiant on Qatar following the US directives. Otherwise no jets are delivered.

He talks tough about terrorism.

He takes credit for manufacturing jobs.

That is having your cake and eating it too.

How would it look if he nixed the deal and the Qataris turned around and bought Typhoons instead? Or worse even, MiGs? Would put a dent in his manufacturing agenda

Comes back to mixed messages then...if they are a supporter of terror as he states and agrees to the regional blockade it's hard to square that with selling them billions of dollars worth of arms, even if the process was well under way.

He's exploiting the ADHD of the voting public. Sure some people pick up the contradictory nature of well... anything and everything he does and says. However clearly there are many that don't.

I'm choosing my personal agenda here. One of those contractor jobs could potentially ride me into retirement

not sure I care either way...if it works for you excellent...invite me to the retirement party.

I just found it interesting, or rather another sign that we are in a period of chaos...in this case either we are sending an inconsistent message or certain aspects of the government, like the military and state department, aren't necessarily in lock step with the president and going about their business as if he's the crazy uncle in the corner

Where's that video of Trump debating himself because he has come out supporting both sides of seemingly almost every issue?  But now it surprises you that he is duplicitous? This issued should have been acquiesced months ago.  He'll say whatever makes him look good in the moment without any consideration about what he has or will say in the future.

Not surprised...If we don't point it out each and every time Blarg will be upset and think we don't care anymore
