Yea I like this train of thought as well.  I'm just a little more a fan of having speed at the #9 spot. I don't know the stats but it would make sense that the #9 hitter comes up with more outs than most spots in the line up.  I believe speed extends innings and if it extends it to the top of the line up, let's just say that's a good thing.  That's why I prefer to flip flop Escobar and Maybin/Revere.

Why have a slow guy right in front of Trout?

I'd rather have him two removed, so that he has a better chance of advancing a base and scoring from second on a single, rather than trying to score on a double by Trout. And if he is only one base ahead of Trout, he limits Trout's speed.

It's more about putting a guy up before Trout that has a high OBP.  Also Trout gets a ton of doubles, so he is more likely to score on a double.  Now if Maybin shows that his OBP from last year wasn't a fluke then there is a lot more validity to having Maybin lead off.

that would be fine with me,  but I think Wieters days of playing an effective catcher might be behind him.

He could probably get a lions share for another year, maybe two, but yes, I see him being more of a 1B/DH/bench guy who is capable of catching within a year or two.

I wouldn't go more than two years - he'd have to be willing to take Jason Castro money for me to go three.
