Again,I've  no real chips on this table.  Just a reminder though - it takes 3 years to align your organization, and up to five for any plan to work out.  DiPoto did a massive re-set in the scouting, minor league administration, and ahalytics areas.  That's step one.  From a distance, it seems that Arte called the shots on the massive long term contracts, for player fame PR promotion.  If left alone (figuratively speaking) DiPoto will use much the same develop from within and buy undervalued talent that other currently successful GM's have applied.  The big buck long term deals are a burden, regardless of income and regardless of performance on the field.

Patience.  It's baseball.  You don't always get what you want, and you don't always want what you get.

I think there are two different GMs in the front office. One is trying to make an organizational change as Ed refered to and you have at least three years before anything bubbles to the surface.

The other GM is following the owners oder to make the team competitive now even without a stocked farm. So he is juggling between getting a few big names and then one to two year filler contracts to try and hold the fort until long term plans start to be realised.

Problems arise when those stopgaps are not performing and there is no minor league help. The organization is in a pants down position trying to compete in a 100 yard dash.

As much as this is not looking good for Dipoto it is twice as bad for Scioscia that gets considerably more out of less over the years but has nothing to turn to keep games in check. Every manager in the league is going to have their head on the chopping block for the performance of the Angels pitching staff. At the very least the pitching coach is headed to the unemployment line and that is probably just a scapegoat firing.

This is not a good pitching team. It has good defense and a reasonably good offense but no manager can work with this pitching staff.
