Do GMs like the attention?

Recommended Posts

This is a question related to GMs and why they make trades.  Obviously they want to improve their ballclub.  But it seems like guys like Dipoto like the attention that comes with always being in the headlines and doing all these little random moves like swapping minor league pitchers.  Then after they make the trade they will get on MLB network and fire up that hot Stove or High Heat with Russo to talk about the trade.  Does Dipoto and other GMs like the attention that comes with making a trade? Do they want to try to show everyone how smart they are?

Jerry always seemed to be the type of person who was very open and accessible so I don't necessarily believe he is a fame whore/gigolo. Could be wrong though I only met him one time but he was pleasant in that brief discussion.

i suppose it could be that the entire reason for their job is to make the organization better from year to year. sooo, it seems like trades, FA signings and drafts might have a lot to do with that.

keep in mind, sports media and the sports clubs are a cooperative that realistically need eachother to survive. cross promotion is going to go in hand with that.

It's just a personality of some people.  Some are very approachable.  And thus will get a lot more pub on whatever they do.  You can ask questions, and get comments.  They will have things you can write about.

Then some are not approachable.  They won't talk.  And thus the only things you can talk about are official releases that everyone else has.  So you will write very little about them.

Is anyone else getting tired of cezero talking able the M's spending like the Marlins or Rays? They're in the upper half of team payroll, right behind the Cardinals. They made a really good signing in Cruz, a not so good but huge signing of Cano, and opened up their wallet to extent Felix.

In fact they're on field payroll is very similar to the Angels, because of a certain player the Angels are paying to play for another team.
