I visited North Korea and snuck out these eye-opening photos

Finally got off work early enough to have some "internet" time on my hands. First of all, thanks to gotbeer for starting this thread and sharing the link, would not have seen this otherwise. Can you believe this kind of stuff is still going on? Mind blowing. Was looking forward to checking out these photos since I first came across this thread just couldn't go through 200 photos.

the guy who wrote the captions seemed a little too much like "see, it's not as bad here as you've been told."

I know you've backtracked on this since, so not a biggie, but I barely saw the captions as this. In fact I found his honesty refreshing.

My first thought as well.

Let your work speak for itself - don't try to romanticize the photo.

Just tell me what the f*ck I'm looking at, and get out of the way.

I didn't feel any romanticism at all. I felt a description of what it was like being there. I also appreciated the translations which were a very useful insight into how every day life is in North Korea. He even described mega-phones giving speeches. And after seeing those two mother****ers faces in the photos for the past 30 minutes, they're like engrained in my head. I can't imagine seeing them everywhere, everyday, anywhere I'd go. Super creepy controlling and propaganda-ish.

I had no idea the North Koreans still possessed one of our commissioned ships.

Neither did I. Apparently the only one in the world? US is just like, eh, let 'em have it, not worth it. I also found very interesting the US helicopter and accompanying photos of an America surrendering and also one with his head shot to bits.

I sensed mostly sarcasm in the photo captions.

I did as well. I actually enjoyed the entire photo album and saw very little, if any, kind of politics incorporated in his album. Refreshing to say the least.

All in all a very eye-opening collaboration of the shithole North Korea is, the indoctrination and control they have over their people, and the very obvious smoke screen they put over all of it to try and convince the rest of the world that none of it is going on. Again, crazy this kind of stuff is going on in 2015. Glad the photographer shared. Enlightening.
