You have to wonder how bad those streets smelled with all the horseshit and piss. Must have been a crappy job to be NYC dept of sanitation.

Sadly, 1896 New York, still had a more advanced public transportation system than present day Los Angeles.

 

Just amazing that some of those structures were built turn on the century. 

 

It would have been awesome if we still had the Pacific Electric criss-crossing Southern California.

Badass!

For those that love this stuff, my favorite old city video is from SF (surprise surprise I know).

This was filmed just days before the devastating quake/fire of 1906.

Pretty surreal.

 

 

Ya I've seen that before. It's cool to see the Ferry Building in the background. For some reason the people who filmed it wanted Market Street to look real busy so they used extras (the same car drives back and forth in front of the camera multiple times.)

 

So many great buildings lost in the earthquake and the ensuing fire. :( 

 

Still one of the best cities on Earth though!

That looks like the first driving video game ever. The car goes straight the whole time, and you have to avoid everything in front of you.
