RJ Alvarez status report? and Danny Reynolds update

Recommended Posts

What is going on with Alvarez?

He's been out for 6 weeks since May 12.

In the meantime, AA teammate Danny Reynolds continues to make a play for a spot in Anaheim.

In 35 2/3 innings across high-A and AA so far in 2014, he has a just above 2.00 ERA and just above 1.00 WHIP, and just above 1 K per inning with only 10 BBs.

Reynolds could be yet another prospect from the 2009 draft to make it in MLB.

Sick draft!!!!

It's just too bad that Eddie Bane parlayed that into an apparently significant flub of the 2010 draft.

Not sure what the deal is with Alvarez, but I do know the big league club has certainly taken notice of Reynolds.  The first time I heard his name was two years ago.  Scouts in the system loved him and his consistent 93 mph fastball.  He was working as a starter back then and as I've come to understand, there was some miscommunication/misunderstanding between him and management and he was labeled as a bit of an attitude problem.  Not sure whether that was fair or not.

But he's in the pen now, which is where he should've been all along and he's regularly hitting 96 on the radar gun now.

thought the move to get Alvarez (for Romine) was a good one when we made it.......but like a lot of Halos deal, Alvarez very quickly wound up on the DL.

still think it was a good move, Romine wasn't going to play here with McDonald (a good choice for the roster IMO) making the 25 man roster and Grant Green in the wings......and Romine is up with the big club and has gotten some playing time with Detroit -- which is good to say -- always liked Romine -- great glove -- he belongs on an MLB team and if it can't be with us -- he deserves the chance he's getting.

Alvarez -- hopefully, now that he's activated he can show some of the promise that he showed with a few of his outings last year with Detroit -- he got a few starts last year.
