Questioning Scioscia.

Since the new guidelines prohibit me from doing it, I thought it was interesting that CJ was quite vocal in his displeasure with Mike's call to IBB LH Cano to face RH Smoak.

Have at it Sosh faithfuls and thank you CJ.

I think the pitcher should be making that call. Unfortunately, I have a hard time believing any pitcher is willing to be strategic enough and put his pride aside to actually IBB a hitter.

I didn't agree with walking Cano, nor did I agree with allowing Smoak to stroke a bases loaded double.

You can't expect Smoak to burn you twice, two games in a row.

Cano is not Barry Bonds circa early 2000s. Take your chance with the lefty of lefty match up. It's basically telling Wilson "we don't think you can get Cano out." Have some confidence in your #2.

Soto, nobody said you cannot question Scioscia.

The problem we have is creating fire Scioscia threads after every loss or questionable call.

Calling him the fat man or any other derogatory remark and we'll send you packing.

I didn't mind it.  I have no problem with make Smoak beat you instead of Cano.  It's is impressive though, that every 50/50 move that MS has made so far hasn't worked out.

It's the manager's job to make decisions like this, and I think it was a reasonable move on Scioscia's part. Baseball is like chess, and it's not up to the players to decide the next move.

If CJ did his job and didn't groove one over the plate we wouldn't be talking right now.

CJ Wilson is probably our best starter. Looks like Sosh has as much confidence in his pitching as I do.

Ive been pretty vocal about finding a replacement for sosh, but this I disagree with. IMO, its CJ's fault for not getting smoak out, and hes not taking responsibility.

Sciosia's job is to make decisions that give his team the best possible chance to win. He has to work with what's in front of him and Cano's reputation as a premier hitter dictates walking him in that situation.  Cano driving in two or more runs in that situation are far greater than Smoak delivering a bases clearing gapper.

Smoak is not as good righthanded as he is hitting lefthanded too.

I'm ok with walking Cano. Apparently, Cano hits CJ well. It backfired because CJ left a hanger in the zone that got Smoaked.

Smoak was 0-12 with 8 strikeouts in bases loaded situations. Of course you walk Cano and see if Smoak can beat you. It was the right call IMHO.

It also allowed for a ball in the gap to score 3 runs. Oh well, it's not the worst decision he's made but I personally didn't like it.

Didn't see the game, but from the replay, Hamilton and Trout looked to be playing really shallow.

I was fine with the call. The bad move Sosh has made this year was leaving Jepsen in to face so many lefty hitters in last nights game. Jepsen has been here for years...we all know his weaknesses by now(sucks vs LHB) Sosh should to.

Jepson has made an effort to change his game with a much lower arm angle, I believe to become more deceptive.  Since he also has decent speed I think there was some basis for believing that maybe this would turn things around for him consistency wise.  Based on one appearance so far it hasn't worked.  I think he will get a couple of more chances, but I have to believe the leash is short.  DDLR and some of the kids will soon be breathing down his neck.

 

On the positive side, Shoemaker looked pretty decent tonight.  We may really need him before this season is over.  I hope he keeps it going.
