Mike Trout has some HOPS

It was impressive, and if Trout is 6'2 I would say that platform is at least 5'.

However, that isn't an indication of his vertical.  Vertical jump is measured by your reach and how much higher you get when you jump.  Trout jumped, but he also kicked his legs up as he landed on the platform.  That is distorting his true vertical.  Either way, it was an impressive jump and just guessing I think Trout's vertical is probably close to 40''

Box jumping is almost more impressive, because in addition to explosiveness it's an indicator of extremely good hip and ankle flexibility.

Also, I know we love to deify Trout 'round here, but there's almost no way his vertical is 40".  That would put him above the majority of NBA players.

I am taking a guess, but I am pretty sure it is close.  First, 40" I have a hard time believing 40" puts him above the majority of NBA players.  (Although I must admit I have not seen stats)  I say that because 40" is not unique for a special athlete and Mike is special athlete (along with NBA players).  As a basketball player and coach I have been around a lot of players who were around the 36-40".  Hell, my vertical in college was tested at 34" and trust me I was not known for my leaping ability.
