An Easing of Rules on Charges by Amex

 

Might be back to having good ole cash in the wallet.

You can already offer cash discounts. Maybe not legally but it is hardly regulated. I've got a bunch of clients who do that with no problems.

 

Yeah, I don't think this would be a popular thing for consumers. Amex would have to up their rewards/cash back percentage to keep us using it for everything, like we do now.

A lot of gas stations already do this. I don't know about Amex fees, but a big reason it's not accepted in more places is the difference in handling complaints. If I remember correctly, Amex halts transactions and it's more complicated for merchants to recoup funds opposed to how Visa/Mastercard operate.

It would be silly to assume businesses don't already factor merchant fees into their pricing structure.

Depends on the business size.  For small merchants, it's cheaper

Most people don't realize that when you use a rewards credit card, the merchant is stuck paying a higher discount fee to subsidize your airline miles and rewards points.
