Napoli's Beard

Since coaching doesn't make any difference, I'm sure it is pure coincidence that Mike Napoli went from being criticized for flailing at everything here to leading all of baseball in pitches seen per at-bat in 2013.

How many strikeouts did he have this year?

Napoli was known as a patient hitter from the get go.  He posted the highest BB % of his career (15.7%) in his first full season in 2006.  He did fall off from 12.8% in 2008 to 9.3 and then 8.2% in his final two years here.

Given he's posted a 12-13% BB % in every year since leaving the Angels, consistent with the first three years of his career, I suppose one could argue there was pressure from the coaching staff to try and put the ball in play more often rather than taking walks.

Of course he was pressured. Walks are a false stat.
