By the way Rally, Brick is not allowed to contact recruits so it isn't like he could call them and tell them that he is considering a LB position with the Falcons.

I'm afraid that want for a more direct means of informing recruits isn't an excuse. If the contention is that he would have directly called recruits if only he were allowed to, then he certainly shouldn't have had a problem discussing it in very careful language with a reporter. Seriously. I think it's fair to assume that if he didn't tell Mora, he sure as hell wouldn't have called recruits if he were allowed to.

He should leak to the media that he was offered a job with the Falcons before he has even accepted it?

I dunno. Should he? Does it have to be a leak? Is it more ethical to discuss with recruiting reporters that you may be considering other offers or remain silent and essentially tell kids to sign on the line and that you'll be their coach? Or should he tell the Falcons to shove it given the timing and the fact that they had to have known NSD was right around the corner? Or would that have not been personally advantageous?

Whatever the case, he's in a tough situation.

If he didn't tell Mora, he wasn't going to tell anybody else.

However you slice it, he's not coming out smelling good.

This is a slimy business.

It is a strange situation because he didn't interview for the position.  His coaching friend called him and said come be my LB coach and he said I will think about it.  This is the night before NSD.

If he doesn't take this job then this is a whole lot about nothing.

There was somebody on the UCLA end that knew about Ulbrich and the Falcons and didn't say a thing at all, no? Recruiting is filthy.

College revenue sports in general are slimy. Look at what 'cuse is trying to pull with this basketball season.

and which college continues to stay out of the headlines in these matters? that's right - el camino, baby.

go warriors!!

I heard about that. No way they would bring him on as a DC. All I can think of is if they do a DC/LB coach then Tui would be gone, and he was terrible, and Seto could be an assistant secondary coach or something.

Seto just got promoted by seattle to lb coach I think with knj going to oakland as dc.

OLB Coach Mike Tuiasosopo has been fired.

OLBs were the weakest spot on the team and he struck out on all three of his recruits.  My guess is Scott White takes his place.

Also sounds like Jim Haslett is the new DC but apparently they are really tight lipped right now so who knows.

Smith commits to Dawgs. Ucla misled him and lied to him according to his interview. Ucla also didn't let him know they didn't offer his major (even though the kid should have known that). Mora tried to pull a fast one and get him to fax his signature. Well played mr. Smith

UGASports.com: The news came out about UCLA later on in the day last Wednesday. Obviously, now, Coach Jeff Ulbrich has made his move to the Atlanta Falcons. How does that shape things? Coach Harold mentioned in the AJC that he was not very happy with how they handled that situation, but how do you feel about how they handled it?"

Smith: "Otherwise, it's a great school and all of this and that, but Coach Ulbrich did say that Coach Dan Quinn (of the Atlanta Falcons) had called him the night before, but he had declined the job offer. I felt like Coach (Jim) Mora should have hit me up and said there's potential that Coach Ulbrich may be leaving. Then, they tried to get me to go ahead and send the papers in, but I wasn't doing it. They tried to get me to send them in at 8 in the morning. Doing a lot of research, which I should have done earlier in the process and thank goodness I had more time, they don't even have my major. I was going to major in business, and the only way to get into business school out there is to be in graduate school."

UGASports.com: I assume that the business degree was something you expressed to them at some point. You probably said 'That's what I want to major in', right?

Smith: "I did."

UGASports.com: And they didn't say you can't do that here?

Smith: "No, they didn't. I guess they were trying to speak as far as the graduate school for business."

UGASports.com: Do you feel mislead?

Smith: "I kind of do. For them to be my first offer, yeah. I thought they were keeping it real with me, but you know people are going to lie."

He said it himself? Unless the uga based site twisted his words?

1. If Mora was told by Ulbrich he turned the offer down, why would he say Ulbrich might be leaving?

2. UCLA offers a Business Economics major.

3. Why did he go on television and announce that he would sign with us if he knew he hadn't made up his mind?
