We have three good starters and another up and comer in Richards who, given a full season, will probably be league average.

While I am not a w/l guy for pitchers, the 31-18 record combined by weaver, Wilson and Vargas illustrates that decent pitching will results in wins. Granted, injuries and decline could have an affect, but its very reasonable that with one mor similar type of stater, this team will be fine.

As an aside, the combined record was achieved even with a bad bullpen. A couple of improvements there and you are looking at a drastic turnaround. It's not a bad team, just a couple of really bad players, some bad luck, injuries, and a couple of weak spots that need to be addressed.

As an aside, all other things being the same, if you plug in two durable league average starters in place of Blanton and Hansen, this team is probably 10-12 games better than they are now.

We have a top 5 offense so we're good there (although we need both Pujols and Hamilton to start hitting, which should make us even better). As rageous said, a 2/3 starter and 2-3 bullpen arms and were set.

 

We don't need 2/3 starters.  We only need 2 and if we resign Vargas we only need 1.

I meant a #2 or a #3 starter. Not 2-3 starters.
