Gameday Thread (4/17/24): Angels @ Rays: Detmers on the mound, O'Hoppe hitting cleanup, Schanuel dropped to 8th

Instead of letting Detmers get out of it because he's earned it with how he's pitched today, let's bring in a reliever who will blow it for him instead.

Detmers did plead his case with Washington, and to his credit he listened, but he has seen enough. I like that Wash doesn't automatically signal to the bullpen on the way to the mound.

So, those hockey mask style catchers masks are far superior to the old school mask/backward helmet. 

Besides the fact that they deflect the ball away from the mask much better on foul backs, reducing impact to the head, there is a much better peripheral view with them, and they don't shuffle around either.

Really don't have to rip them off the same way you do with the mask/helmet combo.

Definitely very impressive thus far this season.

I'm always a little leery of the side arm guys, they tend to be a little inaccurate, but he has been a pleasant surprise for sure.
