Writer-producer-developer Norman Lear, who revolutionized American comedy with such daring, immensely popular early-‘70s sitcoms as “All in the Family” and “Sanford and Son,” died on Tuesday. He was 101.

Edith was the hardest character to create and write while not making her just a punch line in the show. She was genuine and steadfast at being Archie's conscious. Jean Stapelton showed genius in bringing the character to life and allowing the writers so many tools to work with using her talent.
