Surprised no one has brought this up yet. Do you all think he is making this shit up? and if not, why is no one talking about it?

The reason I disregarded it is because it’s all stuff that happened 10 years ago involving a bunch of people who no longer work for the Angels.

I think it’s been well chronicled that the Angels have skimped on things besides big league payroll at times during Arte’s tenure. So unless it’s something current or involving current employees, it doesn’t seem newsworthy.

Will Angels wait to see what Ohtani does in off season before making any moves?

I am sure they can make some moves but other moves would have to wait.

It very well could be Ohtani wants to see moves before he agrees to re-sign.  You’d have to think that if he plays the rest of the year, then the chances he re-signs with the Angels are incredibly high.  Personally, I think he will play until he gets that second opinion then opt to have surgery.

I don’t think Ohtani is going to wait long. Plus, any team that’s going to lay out that kind of money is going to want to do it right at the beginning of the winter.

I think he’s signed before the Winter Meetings.

As for your second point, if he does find out he needs surgery and still chooses to play the rest of the season, that probably increases the chances of him staying.

hey @Angels 1961, you’ve got to stop hijacking other threads to ask me unrelated questions. 😂

Wouldn’t it behoove the Angels for him to get the surgery earlier so he can return as DH earlier in 2024?

I almost feel like it’s the opposite. If he delays surgery, that’s making him less valuable to the Angels in 2024 and makes it more likely he leaves.

Yes, it would behoove whatever team he’s going to if he gets the surgery ASAP. But I think if he delays it, it means he doesn’t have to worry about making a bad first impression on a new team by missing the first month.

I think it would be awkward to go to a new team and say “sorry I can’t play the first month because I wanted to hit a bunch of meaningless HRs last year for the fourth place Angels.”

But maybe I’m reading too much into it.

Honestly he really ought to just stop and get the surgery if that’s what he needs, for the benefit of the Angels or any other team.

Yeah.

I think the only reason for him to not do that is if he had a legitimate shot at beating Judge’s HR record.

But he’s not on pace to do that.
