The Expos had Barry Foote, who was intended to be their long time catcher. Carter was moved around to the outfield to see how he could do. Between 1974 - 1976 he played over 100 games in the outfield. Mostly right field.

The Angels had a really long time to teach Schanuel the fundamentals. Like a month & a half.

To be fair, the Angels haven’t taught Schanuel anything, and that’s probably why he’s on the team.
