Gameday Thread (5/22/23): Angels vs Red Sox - Barria on the mound

So much good about that game

Walsh’s return seemingly sparking the INF defense the past 3 games

Moniak with yet another game deciding HR/XBH, plus Nevin mentioning that he’s made an adjustment on off speed pitches

Barria pitches 5 shutout innings and looks great mixing his pitches.

Devenski and Silseth get the last 11 outs without allowing a baserunner.

Those 3 pitchers kept their pitch counts down.

Just one glaring issue: time to give Loup the Tepera treatment?   Looked like same old Loup, couldn’t locate pitches and allowed two hits in 1/3 inning.
Front end of the pen is still a big issue.

Nice old time pitcher's duel. Barria's best game came at a good time. Loup has to be phased back in under no pressure situations. He is just prone to making mistakes every outing.

Worst game this year for Renfroe?

The Marsh/Moniak trade looks like it has helped both teams. Though it's a small sample size for Mickey. But you can see what Perry was hoping for. A bit of a gamble, but the potential was intriguing.

At age 25 he's already been through a lot of career stress  and pressure and but now seems mature and is adjusting well.  Still a long way to go, but he has the tools to become a long term starter.

They still have to deal with Ward however and get him out of his slump.

In a way having Ohtani locked in at DH handicaps the team from using other players there who may need the at bats to get untracked. Obviously they need Ohtani in there as much as possible, but if they fall out of the race and resigning him seems unlikely maybe they just start thinking of next year and try different lineups.
