It was the Nightmare on Katella Avenue, and not just for one night. For the better part of a decade, the Angels and their fans sweated and dreaded the fear that Mike Trout would take his talents to South Philly. Trout would go home and win big, and the Angels would be stranded in purgatory.

In real life, there was a twist. The Philadelphia Phillies did get a center fielder from the Angels, and they did win big. Trout and the Angels remain in purgatory.

On Monday, as the Phillies play their first World Series home game since Trout’s senior year of high school, their center fielder is expected to be Brandon Marsh.

i don't understand the headline, will he ever play for the phillies. what a weird question and a strange time to ask it. the question(s) to ask when the phillies are in the world series, isn't that question. i just find it bizarrely disassociative.

the angels aren't in the world series. will will ferrell ever be their owner?

Ok, so we trade Trout to the Phillies.  What Blum(Bum) forgets to mention is that the cost in talent coming back to the Angels for Trout would take Philadelphia out of World Series contention, and probably put the Angels in.

What's funny is that you assumed it was written by Blum.

You know, the late Jim Murray or someone like Joe Posnanski would never write crap like this.  Why?  Because they're good storytellers.  People read Posnanski and used to read Murray because they're good writers and their content was/is interesting and even entertaining...

Forget about the Trout angle. I think the real point is that the Phillies are getting important value from the trade now. The Angels? A big question mark going forward. Playoff contribution by Marsh may be very short term or not, but some dividends have been banked. Longer term? The odds still favor the Phillies in that trade. Playoff confidence can be an intangible for Marsh leading into next season.

No kidding.  Doesn’t everyone get all their Angels information right here, like I do?

There are more skilled writers in this forum than there are in the entire LA Times building.

You may realize this (and/or you may not care), but do you realize that the author of the article is the one who posted it here?

Marsh's playoff contribution:

.161 BA

.212/.355/.568

14 K in 34 PA

Who reads click bait?

It's a simple article timed to the Phillies' home opener in the World Series.  It doesn't actually claim or even hint that Trout will get traded.  It's just a story about how things that some people in Millville and Philly thought might happen didn't, but they got Marsh and they're doing fine--and they still watch/admire Trout from afar.

The fact that a few people are being so vitriolic about the piece is bizarre.

If they actually think it might happen, they're idiots.

I said THOUGHT, not "think" present tense.  The point was, in the past, some Phillies fans hoped/thought maybe there was a chance he'd end up with the Phillies-but they realize it's not going to happen now, given the extension.
