I've seen about two thirds of the games so far. Mostly on PVR, with some fast forwarding, so my observations may be limited.

It's all about the pitching. Four solid starters and better bullpen depth. For once a big name acquisition (Syndegard) coming off injuries is living up to expectations. But Lorenzen is the biggest surprise. He's savvy, poised and uses his pitches smartly. If he can eat up innings and keep the runs down then he should put up a winning personal  record. Sandoval seems to be coming into his own, and Ohtani is Ohtani!

Loup is more than fulfilling expectations and is another shrewd acquisition. If Iglesias remains sharp then there is enough depth between he and the starter to get through the sixth to eighth innings. Not sure about Hergert with his funky delivery, but we'll see how it plays out.

Hitting can be awesome at times, but also streaky. Rendon, Marsh  and Walsh still have room to improve. Ohtani is still more like he was the second half of last season than the first half. But he seems to be finding his swing and timing. He's due for a real hot streak. Trout returning to form has made a tremendous difference. Fletcher still seems to be trying to get back to form. Ward has been the biggest surprise. Unexpected, but he has changed the dynamic of the batting order. Hopefully this is his new normal and he can sustain it. Compensates for Adell's failure to ignite to some degree.

Baserunning and defense can stand improvement. But overall if the key players remain healthy this team should be a playoff contender at least.
