OC Register: Jose Mota expected to join Dodgers’ broadcast team

Recommended Posts

Another veteran will be trading the Angels for the Dodgers.

Long-time Angels broadcaster Jose Mota is expected to be one of multiple additions to the Dodgers’ broadcast team for the 2022 season. Mota announced on his Instagram account earlier this week that he was leaving the Angels and Bally Sports West after 20 years without giving any hint at the next step in his career.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Mota has worked in both languages on the Angels’ radio and television broadcasts since joining the organization in 2002 and frequently served as a translator for the team’s Spanish-speaking players. Mota has also worked on FOX baseball broadcasts as well as Caribbean Series coverage.

Dodgers officials would not comment on any changes to their broadcast team.

Briefly a big-league infielder with the Padres and Royals in 1991 and 1995 — and behind Kevin Costner in the movie “For the Love of the Game” — the 56-year-old Mota would be well-positioned to succeed Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrin who announced that he plans to retire following the 2022 season, his 64th as the Dodgers’ Spanish play-by-play announcer. Fernando Valenzuela and Pepe Yniguez completed the Spanish-language broadcast team in 2021.

Mota would also be joining his father with the Dodgers. Manny Mota has been a consistent presence around the team for decades as a player, coach and broadcaster.

Did he often fuck up translations.

He would basically make up whatever he thought the player was trying to say but like Lou said, there were times where he just flat out said something completely different or left huge chunks out.

You guys thought his jacking up English was funny, his creative Spanish translations were just as epic.
