Oregon promoting teacher course on 'dismantling racism in mathematics'

The Oregon Department of Education is promoting and encouraging its educators to register for a course that likens modern math instruction to the "toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture."

Asians would be like stop appropriating our culture.

Also common core math is evil.

"The concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally false, and teaching it is even much less so," it said. "Upholding the idea that there are always right and wrong answers perpetuate objectivity as well as fear of open conflict."

a. What a crock of sh*t

b. This philosophy would’ve been really helpful when I was struggling with algebra as a freshman.

It's no wonder that Oregon's greatest claim to fame is crappy shoes that don't fit consistently.

LMAO! “Ethnomathmetics” alone delegitimizes this.

One thing I do agree with the article on is we limit kids when we tell them there is only one way to solve a problem.  I think that is one of the biggest issues in our school today

Common core math has tried to teach this but it hasn’t been as user friendly as they would like it to be.

I agree that sometimes there can be more than one way to solve a problem, but that isn’t universal across all types of calculations. How that equates to it being racist is pure guano.

You can tell common core math kids in the workforce when you get 5 dimes instead of two quarters for change.

This city is begging for cops to come back after 'defund the police' movement backfires

Minneapolis on Friday backtracked on its original push to defund the city’s police department in the wake of George Floyd’s police custody death after residents begged the city to hire more officers, citing longer response times and increased violent crime.

The City Council on Friday voted unanimously to approve $6.4 million in additional funding that police had requested.

The department says it only has 638 officers available to work — roughly 200 fewer than usual. An unprecedented number of officers quit or went on extended medical leave after Floyd's death and the unrest that followed.

Cop fired for allegedly leaking info to BLM

A police officer in Kentucky was fired Friday over allegations that he gave a Black Lives Matter organizer information about other officers working protests that could be used to "insult, intimidate and harass."

Lexingtion police Officer Jervis Middleton was relieved of his duties following a unanimous vote by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council after a nine-hour hearing and two hours of closed deliberations, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

"Officer Middleton’s conduct during a highly stressful and potentially vulnerable time during the history of our community — the most significant policing event in our community in 20 years — demonstrates that he should no longer be a police officer," said Keith Horn, a lawyer for the city of Lexington, according to the Herald-Leader.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers and an internal police disciplinary board had recommended Middleton’s firing over several policy violations for sharing department information and for allegedly lying about it. He had also been demoted recently for a separate complaint related to accusations he used department resources to look up information about a woman he had once been romantically involved with, according to the newspaper.

"I felt like the discipline he received last time should have been a message to him and allow him to come back and become the officer that I know he can be," Weathers said. "After this, I just can’t see him coming back. To me, it was a violation of trust and a violation of the position of a police officer. He was supposed to protect the public, but he should also protect his fellow officers."

Middleton challenged the allegations necessitating the hearing.

The fired officer initially denied sharing information with BLM leader Sarah Williams, a friend, but admitted it when he was shown text messages obtained through a search warrant, city lawyer Horn said.

Ferguson activists, Michael Brown's father demand $20M from BLM

The father of Michael Brown and other activists from Ferguson, Missouri, are demanding financial support from Black Lives Matter after the organization revealed it raised over $90 million last year.

Michael Brown Sr., whose son was fatally shot by a white police officer in August 2014, along with the other activists that helped propel the movement, want $20 million from the group to help their community.

"Where is all that money going?" Brown Sr. asked in a Tuesday press release from The International Black Freedom Alliance.

"How could you leave the families who are helping the community without any funding?"

The police shooting of Michael Brown sparked months of unrest in Ferguson and helped solidify the national Black Lives Matter movement.

"We’re not asking for a handout, but for the funding to keep the movement strong where it began," said Tory Russell, a Ferguson activist and co-founder of The International Black Freedom Alliance.

The funds in Ferguson would be used, in part, to build a community center in honor of Michael Brown, the press release said.

Last month the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation shared its funding numbers in an impact report first provided to The Associated Press.
