Cancer is the last insurance, unfortunately. Cancer is the one thing we cant figure out.

Every other thing out there, weve dealt with one way or another. No animals use us a food source. Weve learned to kill bacteria with soap and cooking (except the chinese), in the developed world we more of less have eradicated vectors like flees, mosquitos (or at least really pushed them back). And we have eradicated most diseases that killed humans throughout history, by vaccines.

The last animal that preys on us, is us.

By eliminating most of what kills us, our population has gone unchecked, and weve collapsed our ecosystem.

Like that article mentioned, things like this are nature pushing back, trying to keep balance.

We also bail out or save the lowest common denominator which as a cop you'd know that better than any of us.  Used to be the prehistoric guy who got too close to the wrong wildlife got eaten and that was the end of his line while his buddies learned what not to do.  These days we have people jumping into cages with wild animals for selfies, licking food they put back for likes and at most it's pretty much a slap on the wrist.  Previous generations that lived through WW1, the Great Depression, WWII and so on were harder people because of it and we're a far cry from them.  As a society some of the ways we've changed in the last so many decades hasn't been for the better.

The United States was ranked the best-prepared country in the world to handle a pandemic in late 2019 by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (JHCHS) -- an assessment seemingly at odds with claims by Democrats that the Trump administration left the country vulnerable to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The Global Health Security Index was was "developed with guidance from an international panel of experts from 13 countries, with research by the Economist Intelligence Unit" from 2018 to 2019, The Washington Post reported last year. "More than 100 researchers spent a year collecting and validating publicly available data.”

Evidently the US was the global pandemic version of Baldoquin:

Rudderless, blindsided, lethargic, and uncoordinated, America has mishandled the COVID-19 crisis to a substantially worse degree than what every health expert I’ve spoken with had feared. “Much worse,” said Ron Klain, who coordinated the U.S. response to the West African Ebola outbreak in 2014. “Beyond any expectations we had,” said Lauren Sauer, who works on disaster preparedness at Johns Hopkins Medicine. “As an American, I’m horrified,” said Seth Berkley, who heads Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “The U.S. may end up with the worst outbreak in the industrialized world.”

I wonder if that's why the market took a big dive in the last half-hour of trading today. Look at today's chart.

If this bill gets tabled, it could be an exceedingly ugly day tomorrow.

Regardless if it's tomorrow or even next week they'll eventually get something passed I have no doubt of that.  I'm more concerned with the long term implications of whatever they pass and how long millions of people aren't able to work.

so do with this what you will...I had a doctor's appointment on Monday, annual wellness check. They are rescheduling all non essential appointments right now until at least August. Not that is the earliest they have available on this schedule, but that is the earliest they currently project the CDC guidelines to change.

He sounds so reassuring. This should work out well for the city of LA

Kind of already feels like they've given up and the virus has beaten us

Between him and Newsom you would think the world is going to end.  I'm not trying to downplay what we're trying to accomplish but they sure seem to be using scare tactics (Newsom saying 25M Californians would contract it in 8 weeks) and absolute worst case scenarios.  I would think they could accomplish the same thing by sounding a bit more confident about the course we're on while saying it may get worse before it gets better.  Much like news headlines being worst case scenarios it does nothing to calm fears and little to instill confidence.

That's probably illegal tbh. I'm guessing they're selling each can for like $10?

They sell singles here all the time. I didn't go this time, so I don't what they are charging. Last time they had it they had it, we convinced them to sell us a 4 pack. I think it was $22, so nothing too outrageous.

I think some of this is less they really think the soonest we'll get back to "normal" is August and more they don't want to have to re-schedule again if it stretches out, so rather than schedule for May/June they are just saying fuck it...schedule August for non critical appointments.

I don't mean the singles. I just meant the selling of Alchemist beer. If it was shipped out there by the brewery then it's not an issue but I've seen random places across the country get Heady and then mark it up an obscene amount. Hence the $10 for a can. Some sell it for as much as $20 a can.

Considering a 4 pack is $13 and change, that's insane.

It's shipped from the brewery. Since they expanded, like Red said, they send some out to us every now, and then.

Yeah, but that's from the brewery. I would gladly pay $22 for a four pack here. Way cheaper than the shipping I paid to send two beers to you in a trade.
