Can Ohtani throw at all this year?

Not pitch, but could the Angels try him out in the outfield or first base?  Can he make the throws needed to field these positions?

Dude is such a good athlete, feels like a waste that he is DH only.

Rehab for UCL reconstruction is at least 6-7 months before throwing is allowed. On very rare occasions, 5 months. Often 9-10 months is needed.

Given his injury history and the fact that he is a two way player who is already actively hitting (well technically actively missing right now, but you get my point), I would weight that estimate to the longer side.

Ohtani will just keep playing catch on flat ground till around August, when he’ll start to do some stuff on a mound. Then he’ll gradually increase that until he can face some hitters, which will be in October. I’m not sure how far they’ll go into that before stopping for the winter, since he obviously doesn’t need to pitch until 2020.
