Mike Trout for MVP & Shohei Ohtani for AL ROY in the same season?

Ohtani - 2.6 WAR as a hitter and 1.2 WAR as a pitcher with 3.8 WAR overall

Andujar - 1.8 WAR

Torres - 2.7 WAR

Ontani "should" win but his competitors are Yankees so nothing is assured

Trout, though, has an even tougher path ahead for MVP.

Betts is leading the league in WAR at 9.7 (1.8 of that is defensive) and plays on the best team in baseball.  Trout is going to have to explode offensively to even get in the conversation...likely his average would have to be in the high-.320's minimum and have to get 40 HRs.  He'd also need both Betts and Martinez to start slumping to get their numbers close and, even, then it's likely not going to happen unless the vote for MVP is severely split between Betts and Martinez.

Mike won in 2016 over Betts, even though the Angels were out of the playoffs, because of his 10.5 to 9.7 WAR advantage but he's likely not going to have that difference again.

Obviously no crystal ball, but Ohtani has a better shot at Rookie of the Year than Trout does at MVP
