Set up man or good fourth outfielder?

If you could only have one would you rather go with a good set up guy or left handed specialist like a Tony Watson or sign a guy like Jarrod Dyson to be our fourth outfielder?

Set up man. 4th OF shouldn't see much time with Upton, Trout, and Calhoun.

Parker was fantastic but he has still been a journeyman his entire career, and Bedrosian can't stay healthy.

Setup man.  In the playoffs, that setup man will be used practically daily, whereas the 4th OF will have a much smaller impact on the game.

A guy like Raja Davis would be an ideal 4th OF to me and should be pretty inexpensive. 

I'd like a set-up guy we can count on.

I go the other way with this one Ocho.  If I could get a guy like Dyson, I would take him over any of the set up guys that are left on the market.  He may not start a ton of games, but he would pinch run a few times a week.  He might even come in late in games as a defensive replacement.  He could also get a bunt down when needed.  Mostly I would see his value running late in games for Albert or Maldonado.

That's bound to be the primary job of any 4th OF on a team where all 3 starters are assumed to start 150+ games and there's probably a better supply of them than there is of proven relievers

Since two way players are a thing now, why not get a player that does both?

The Angels have three full-time players in the outfield. Any 4th OF is going to get minimal playing time so someone like Jarrod Dyson is unlikely to sign with us because of that (unless he really believes that strongly in trying to win a WS ring) as he likely has offers for regular playing time with another team.

Bullpen piece would be where I would upgrade. You can always just snag a veteran prior to the start of the season or fill up with Minor League signings like Rymer Liriano.

Anthony Gose.  The Astros snatched him away from the Rangers in the Rule 5.  I think I read where he can clock 98 mph.

I mean, a 4th outfielder is important but you can't compare Jeff DaVanon to Scot Shields.

If there was a Scot Shields available I would say Shields.  There isn’t so I’ll say Dyson.

Man it just seemed like every time we’d play KC that Dyson would pinch run late in a game, steal second and end up scoring the game winning run.

Oh I'd gladly have Dyson, don't get me wrong. He's as good as a 4th outfielder gets. I just think his talents would be wasted here. 

We have a ton of bullpen options, but none are even close to a "sure thing". Granted, you can say that about every reliever, but it would be nice to have a rock solid option to hold down the fort for whomever ends up closing.

Id welcome any further additions that make us better, and a good outfielder would help. And youre right, pinch running for pujols and maldy would help...(assuming they get on base enough...).

But i eould prefer a solid pen to lock down the good starts ee get from the SP staff. Were still on thin ice there until proven otherwise. Id rather not watch us give up leads than pinch run for one guy who will bat late in the order, and another who should be.

Actually, I'm thinking that signing someone like Reed and Watson with the remaining money and then bringing in EYJ to play the 4th outfielder would be a great final roster.

Addison Reed, looking at what Eppler has done with unproven guys such as Bedrock, Norris and Parker. Makes you wonder what Eppler can go to Reed a proven and solid reliever .

I think a lock down closer would do wonders for this team. No guessing who's coming in night after night

We need another Lefty in the pen Watson would be great! He also has experience as a closer with the Pirates! 

Dyson would be great to have also! As that 4th OF speed guy off the bench he can play any of the 3 positions.

Dyson is going to cost you 3.5M-4M.....Watson 6M-7M per.... S10.5M you can get both!!!!

Another thing to consider. Weve talked about how importsnt the health of our starters are. Lets say we have bad luck again. If we are out of the fight come the break, having some decent relievers to trade off would net us more than a 4th outfielder i think.
