chisox have released on derek holland. gerry fraley on top of it.

 

 

 

He's had a rough year but i mean at this point we can take any help we can get. Maybe coming back to he AL West would him get his grove back.

 6.16 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 26 starts and three relief appearances.

Nothing like his 6.16 ERA to help us with the Wildcard push. We have some of this already.

Guy isn't eligible for a playoff roster spot anyways.

Can he become a LOOGY in September?   That's about the only way I would trust him this month.

Would be nice to have two of them (including Alvarez), with as many pitching changes as Sosh is making lately.

True...but if the Halos tie for the wildcard he would still be eligible to pitch...so the Angels could use Holland as a starter in the tiebreaker saving Richards for the wildcard

Why save Richards or any others pitchers and let a guy with a 6+ ERA pitch a wild card play in game? No point when he blows the game for you. Would rather see Chavez in there or even do a bullpen game.Holland is trash.

Holland is a gritty veteran man...we all know Scioscia loves the gritty veteran...this is the perfect solution outside of signing Mat Latos.

He's a lot worse...  consider this..   his FIP of 6.42 means you could argue he's been lucky to have a 6.20 ERA..

Velo down 1mph from last year which was down from the previous year a bit.  For whatever reason, he's a fly ball pitcher even though he's a fourseam/sinker/slider guy.  Walks way up this year so he's nibbling like crazy.  Unless they think it's mechanical and they can fix him then I would steer clear.  Don't really see this as a good time to let a guy find himself.

This.  Holland's velocity has been declining for several years.  He's always had a ten cent head, now he has an arm of equal value.
