Opening Day -- F. Rodney/ J. Mathis show

Recommended Posts

SF Giants / AZ D-Backs game is in the 8th inning --- tie score heading into the 8th -- and 5 to 4 Giants -- when D-Backs pen guy (not sure if he's set up or closer , perhaps soon to be neither) Fernando Rodney does another one of his high wire acts we saw so often in Anaheim.........this time Rodney is aided by his battery mate, Jeff Mathis --

Rodney throws fastballs into the dirt and Mathis doesn't stop them behind the plate........run scores and runners advance on two wild pitch/ pass ball type plays (take your pick, the scorers called them WPs)

Two former Halos - at least performing down to the playing standard they had while playing for the Halos.

Giants lead 5 to 4 bottom 9th now - Melancon on to close for SF.

of course just as I posted that, Mathis rips a double in the bottom of the ninth (with two outs).  He has a single, double and did I hear a triple ? today.

three hits..........I don't think he had many, if any, three hit games for the Halos.

Now AZ ties it up............Mathis scores tying run with two down in 9th -- I guess my prior post was up there too soon...........

All that hitting/running around is gonna mess up his crouch.   He needs to stop that.

AZ threatening to win game in 9th with winning run on third..........terrible debut by SF Giants new expensive closer Melancon.......even if he gets out of it.

Base hit by Owings for walk off win by D-Backs.

Two out ninth inning rally started with double by JEFF MATHIS -- who makes FERNANDO RODNEY (who blew the save in the top of the 9th with Wild Pitch/ Passed Ball help from Rodney/ Mathis)  the WINNING PITCHER.........
