No,  not the crazy old geezer but Bernie of the 66ers with CJ Wilson on the mound.

First batter doubles down the right field line. #4 is not hitting his spots.

Nice. Take some pics @Blarg

I'd say C.J Wilson is allowed to be a bit rusty.

Taylor Ward is the catcher tonight. So far CJ has four strikeouts in 2 innings. Ward us getting some calls,  the last batter was a little miffed the low inside curve was called a strike.

Ward Flies out to left. The inning ends with a second infield pop fly.  66ers have yet to get a runner on base.

He really looks good behind the plate. He is getting calls the Storm catcher isn't. He doesn't over play the borderline pitch,  just catches it with little movement and holds for a call. The storm catcher keeps trying to pull the ball back over the dish which is the giveaway he is selling.

He has made some solid contact at the plate but nothing to show for it. Looks like he is seeing the ball well,  getting a balanced swing but it is finding gloves tonight.

BTW Ayendy Perez looks like he should be in little league he is so short.

@wopphilCJ wasn't throwing at full velocity and at times he had some landing issues. Once he fell off the left side awkwardly but still managed to throw a strike. For the most part he looked smooth and not struggling to repeat his motion. But every now and then you could see it get away from him, not a wild pitch but his delivery didn't have a complete follow through or like I said, he would land wrong.

Wilson did hit 90mph, according to the OCR article this morning.     That is still 2-3mph off from where he usually maxed out at in the past.   Patience is important though, there's still close to 3 weeks to go until mid-June.

66ers Scoreboard doesn't post speed gun readings. From what I saw it was primarily about regaining the feel of being on a mound in a game situation and not trying to do too much. He wasn't pitching to strike out A+ guys, just hit his catchers glove where it was placed. He doffed his hat when he left the field to the crowd that gave him generous applause. He did leave with a serious look on his face, like he was processing his game rather than look up and enjoy the moment. Sometimes he can be a little too cerebral.

As warning to anyone thinking of going to a 66ers game, do not use the 10 freeway. That have that whole area around the 215/10 interchange messed up for construction. Coming home from the game the on ramp to the 10 Los Angeles was shut down and the eastbound side the on ramp to the 215 was shut down. This caused a nasty traffic snarl trying to get around the mess. Then further down the road was pavement going on so it was two lanes only. Really added to the drive time.

The 210 to the 215 is the best bet. It's a little longer drive if you are coming up from Orange County to stay on the 57 to the 210 but you won't be stuck in traffic. You also may want to consider the 60 to the 15 north to the 210 and drop down the 215 to the stadium.

Get off on 2nd/3rd street and find G street and you will come in the back entrance. If you are coming up north on the 215 and take Inland Center Drive to E street north you will be disappointed to find out you can't turn left into the Stadium and have to take a long detour to the back side since there are no U turns. They put a bus lane in the center divider you cannot cross. Take G street for both directions.

How does his squatting technique look?

He is a slender guy for his size and gets out of the umpires way to see the ball. He does get low and yet he is very mobile, like his upper body doesn't weigh him down.

Wait until Scioscia teaches him how to eat. ;)

Hopefully his bat starts to learn a thing or two

@Angels N SkinsMinor leaguers, they don't need to be taught how to eat they just aren't given enough per diem to actually do it.

This was a cold weeknight and there was a pretty good crowd on hand. No where near a sellout, more like less than half full but the stadium looked a hell of a lot busier than a Marlins game. Now that school has let out there should be a little boost in attendance, it is cheaper than going to a movie for most tickets.
