2013 First-Year Player Draft

Once again, the Angels first pick in the upcoming draft won't be until the 2nd round, 59th overall. Their second pick will be 95th overall. So two picks in the first 100 selections and 3 in the first 130.

 

With a damn near empty farm system, and a weak Major League pitching staff, the Angels need to turn to ML-ready college arms.

For not having a pick in the top 100 they did well in last year's draft. Really well actually.

 

If they can have a similar draft again this year, their lower levels will be stocked.

 

To the peanut gallery their farm system will still look bad because they mostly pay attention to the higher levels.

No worries Scott, they'll come again. I get the feeling the Angels are done playing the marquee free agent game for now. WIlson, Pujols, Hamilton were all fun, but we need more Kaleb Cowarts and Garrett Richards.

Here's hoping that Ziomek is somehow available.   Vandy has a solid rep for producing pitchers, and he's a much needed lefty.

Unless they can sign David Price after 2014 (still only 28), no more big money signings please for the next 4-5 years.

If they were to sign Price, it would be for a Weaver type deal. then he would end up undergoing TJ surgery a month into the season.
