Angels acquire LHP Chris Jones

#orioles have acquired minor league OF Natanael Delgado & INF Erick Salcedo from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for LHP Chris Jones.

 

he had just been bumped off the Orioles' 40 man.

Jones was removed from the 40-man roster to open a spot for Zach Phillips. He struck out just 105 batters in 150 innings with Triple-A Norfolk last season, but he throws from the left side and owns a 3.35 career minor league ERA, so he could generate some interest on the waiver wire.

Jones, 27, was protected from the Rule 5 Draft back in November after posting a 2.94 ERA over 30 appearances (including 22 starts) at Triple-A Norfolk last season. Mar 23 - 9:20 AM

Minor league pitching depth is a good thing

Basically a left-handed #6-7 type, spot starter. Losing Delgado kind of sucks but I guess sacrificing some long-term potential for some short-term depth is alright.

"Age 27, Jones has yet to appear in the majors but has a good performance record in Triple-A, posting a 3.12 ERA in 340 innings over parts of three seasons with a 237/99 K/BB. Although used primarily as a starter in the minors he profiles better in the bullpen as a major leaguer, where his 87-89 MPH fastball, curve, and deceptive delivery could have LOOGY uses. He could see the majors later this year."
