'Dentist of horror' on trial for injuring French patients

Recommended Posts

Something similar happened to me back in 1990. I went to a dentist in downtown Long Beach to get my wisdom teeth extracted. He did two, and then I was supposed to come back a week later for the other two. Well, he took the first two out and packed them with gauze, and told me to take it out in an hour. I took it out but one of the two areas didn't stop bleeding. This went on for hours, and by that time it was evening and his office was closed. Long story short, I sat up in bed all night packing and re-packing cotton gauze in my mouth. Had a few moments of sleep, lost a lot of blood and drove unsteadily to his office in the morning. He wasn't there, but another dentist took care of me and finally my ordeal was over.
I still have the other two wisdom teeth. I've been too scared to go through that again.

Why didn't he just remove all four in the first place?

One of them was impacted and he thought it would be too hard on me for all of them to come out the same day. That was what he told me.

The impacted one is still there, and my dentist wants me to see an oral surgeon to have it removed. I tell you, the fear factor is enormous for me, and I have no insurance so it will cost me dearly.

I certainly can understand people having their respective fears, but most people don't experience what you went through. I have had mine removed and it went fine. I just was lying around taking Vicodin all day for like 3-4 days (some people call that a typical weekend). I'm not sure your situtation but if you have a wife/gf to help take care of you, it certainly helps things.

As far as having no insurance goes, yeah that is a bummer, and I can certainly understand not wanting to fork over a few thousands to get a dental procedure, but you probably should have it removed soon if your dentist is that worried about it. Of course, this could all be a major scam built up by Big Oral Surgery to take thousands of dollars to remove perfectly harmless teeth. I blame Obama, he's been in on this from day one. How do you think he won the Presidency? Nobody wins without Big Oral backing you (that also includes the porn, prostitution and books-on-tape industries).
