Do we think Cowart or Kubitza could manage a .700 OPS? I'm honestly just wondering. I think they could, despite last years results.

A players first few games in the majors aren't usually a true test of where he's going to be at.

Strictly from an offensive (OPS) perspective: Kyle Kubitza - maybe. Kaleb Cowart - probably not. Both struggled in their first trip to the majors, but Trout's first trip was relatively uneventful too. So your point there is fair.

A reasonable scenario I could see: Sign Juan Uribe on a one-year contract... Escobar at 2B and platoon Kubitza (left) with Uribe (right) at 3B.

Can I ask... why are you OK with Giavotella at 2B? His defense in 2015 was statistically baseball's worst. If another 2B can come close to his .694 OPS and play basic, league average defense, that would be a 2.2 WAR player instead of a 1.0 WAR player.

It's a fair question.

Every team will have a hole. The fact that we are paying Hamilton/Pujols so much suggests we will have more than one hole.

LF was soooooooooo bad last year yet we contended to the last day.

Massively upgrading LF males us a playoff team IMO.

In fact Gio was one of our best players that final stretch.

I don't think he is a top 2b but all things considered 2b is not one of our major problems.

Here were my top 5

LF stud-????

bench- check

C platoon- check

Skaggs health- check

Average 3b- check

Clippard will get Darren O'Day money.

That's why he hasn't signed.

If the Angels want to stay at or near the tax this year, they've really got no hope of improving after the Simmons trade. The two best trade chips they had gone for a position not of immediate need.

If they resign Freese or Kendrick, they will then not have a budget for the pen or for left field. But they might be ok with Gentry in left. I don't know.

If they signed Clippard for the pen, they would essentially have zero budget for left or for an additional upgrade in the infield. Doesn't make sense.
