We didn't let him go he just left. He had an arm injury so the team only offered him a four year $72 million contract. Oh those four years after he left the Angels his WARs go as followed

A look at the collective WAR for Lackey and Weaver since Lackey left tells me that Lackey is the better pitcher now by far, but since Lackey left Weaver was the MUCH better pitcher.

Lackey WAR 2010-2015= 9.3

Weaver WAR 2010-2015= 23.4

Yes it would have been nice to have a Lackey type pitcher last year instead of Weaver, but that would be THE ONLY season in the last 6 that that is true, and it isn't really even close year to year.
