I guess it's that time of the year again.  Like the leaves changing colors, it's time for Winter Blend, and to jack up the price of gas through their own incompetence.  Just in time for the holiday season.

Residents advised to close windows after fire erupts at Chevron oil refinery in El Segundo

watching that fire last night, all i could think of was "well, my gas expenses are about to go up . . . again."

To try and prove their point that a creature could be “alive” without its head, a group of researchers in the 1990s beheaded a pregnant sheep and connected her body to a breathing machine. They delivered the sheep’s baby by C-section. “There is no ambiguity here: the sheep remained alive during the experiment.” the researchers wrote, concluding “decapitated animals are not necessarily dead.”

the one thing they're forgetting to mention in this example is that people who are beheaded do not have it happen in a controlled environment. it happens in accidents and wherever else, and it's the loss of blood that contributes to the person dieing (exanguination, or however you spell it). i'm sure the pregnant sheep had slightly different conditions.

How many times had that place caught fire? Seems like once a year for the last five years.

Oklahoma inmate suffered from 91-hour erection, lawsuit claims

A former Oklahoma inmate is suing for $5 million in a lawsuit that claims prison officials let him suffer in “unbearable pain,” after being denied treatment for an erection that lasted 91 hours.

Dustin Lance claims in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Muskogee that he suffered permanent injury in December 2016 when Pittsburg County jail officials ignored his pleas for medical help, Tulsa World reported.

Lance claims in the lawsuit that he took a pill offered to him by another inmate and let jail staff know the next day that he was reeling from “unbearable pain” being caused by the erection.

Instead of helping Lance, the suit claims, jail officials mocked him and did not transport him to a local hospital until four days after he swallowed the pill.

When the hospital indicated Lance needed to be transferred over to a urologist’s office for treatment, he was returned to the jail and was arranged to be released on his own recognizance due to “medical issues,” Tulsa World reported.

The lawsuit names police, government and medical individuals.

Lance is facing a misdemeanor charge of breaking and entering a dwelling without permission in a separate criminal case.

3D printed concrete bridge

DIGITAL TRENDS: The Netherlands is home to the world’s first 3D-printed concrete bridge

3D-printing isn’t just for constructing flimsy little prototypes or delicate human organs. This 21st-century technique is now being employed in the real construction industry, as it’s just been used to create a concrete bridge. That’s right, friends — you can now ride across a 3D-printed concrete bridge, apparently the first of its kind in the world, given that you’re riding a bike. On Tuesday, October 24, the bridge saw its maiden journey take place, as hard hat-wearing officials rode across the new structure, located in Gemert.

“The bridge is not very big, but it was rolled out by a printer, which makes it unique,” Theo Salet, from the Eindhoven University of Technology (where the bridge was printed), told Dutch broadcaster NOS. The 800 layers of the bridge took around three months to completely print out of the reinforced, pre-stressed concrete material; a far cry from the plastic that most of us are most accustomed to seeing extruded from these machines.

When Shawn-Marie Riley arrived at what’s believed to be the world’s only plus-size resort, the 375-pound Texan immediately felt right at home.

“Being able to feel ‘normal,’ even for a little while, was beyond a gift,” says the 5-foot-8 benefits administrator of her visit to the Resort, on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera. Riley says she loved it so much, she plans to return next year.

The secret retreat, founded two years ago by entrepreneur James King, encourages fuller-figured tourists to let it all hang out while on vacation. They can loll on chaise lounges built to hold 560 pounds; sleep — or enjoy worry-free sex — on king-size, steel-reinforced beds; and stroll the private beach without what King calls “fear of judgment.”

“What’s so great is [the Resort’s] recognition that people of size have insecurities and challenges that the general public never considers,” Riley tells The Post of her visit in November 2015, soon after it opened. “Will they have chairs I can sit on? Will the bed hold my weight? Will I fit in the tub?

“Can you imagine how it feels to walk down a beach and hear people refer to you as a beached whale?” continues Riley, who lives in Arlington, Texas. “I wore a bikini and never felt uncomfortable, and I was noticed for my beauty, not my size. Living as a plus-size person in a judgmental world is stressful.”

King says around 60 percent of his clientele are American, and roughly 10 percent of them come from the New York metro area.

King — who was inspired to found the resort because previous hotels he worked at didn’t cater to obese people — books only small groups of up to 24 people at a time. The $16,400 rate for a six-day stay includes three buffets a day. Drinks and tips are on the honor system.

TV show host Ellen DeGeneres made an impassioned – and blatantly hypocritical – speech recently on her program condemning sexual harassment. And then she went on to do what she condemned.

Sexual harassment occurs when one person chooses to sexually objectify another person. And in a tweet, DeGeneres shared a photo of herself and singer Katy Perry with DeGeneres’ jaw wide open and gawking directly at Perry's breasts. To complete the hypocritical gesture, DeGeneres included this caption:

“Happy birthday, @KatyPerry! It’s time to bring out the big balloons!”

The real question now is how would DeGeneres have responded if it were a man who did exactly what she did – taking a photo posing with his jaw wide open and head gawking into the breasts of another woman?

How would DeGeneres react if it were a man making the same comments, calling a woman’s breasts “big balloons?” She would no doubt be one of the first people to publicly condemn such an action as being sexist and harassment.

“This is not a male thing or a female thing, it is not a Hollywood thing or a political thing, this is a human thing and it happens in the workplace, it happens in families, it happens all over the world and we are all the same,” she said on her TV show in a monologue discussing sexual harassment. “We all want the same thing, we want respect, love and kindness. And if I could have those three things and an iPhone X, I would be complete.”

So how does DeGeneres justify her sexist action?

Is it because she's a woman and she thinks that it's okay for one woman to objectify another woman's body?

Is it because DeGeneres believes that since she is a lesbian she can objectify or make sexual comments about another woman's body?

If you are going to be a social justice warrior Ellen, then you must also be the example. You cannot just bandy words around and argue against sexual harassment, calling for love, respect and kindness for all humans when you are actually the one engaging in the very thing you condemn.

It is exactly these sorts of behaviors that lead the general public to become so exhausted and disgusted by the hypocrisy of Hollywood.

Ellen, don't use an anti-sexual harassment campaign to build yourself up or to widen your audience or to gain more ratings. Do it because you believe in it. And if you believe in it then maintain your integrity and be consistent in your actions. At the very least, you could own up to your sexist actions, apologize and learn from your own mistakes.

California gas taxes go up today

Gasoline taxes will rise by 12 cents per gallon today — and diesel taxes by even more — to raise money for fixing roads and highways.

It’s the first of several tax and fee hikes that will take effect after Democratic lawmakers approved them earlier this year, a vote that Republicans see as a key issue in the 2018 election.

The price increase for gasoline will be mitigated because it coincides with the annual shift to a winter blend of gasoline, which generally reduces prices by about 6 cents per gallon, said Marie Montgomery, a spokeswoman for AAA of Southern California.

It’s tough to predict how much prices will rise overnight, Montgomery said, but past gas tax increases have generally led to gradual price increases.

“We don’t know. We’ve seen gas prices increase in the last week, so they could be already building that increase in,” Montgomery said. “Or we may see a sizeable hike (today).”

Diesel taxes will go up by 20 cents a gallon and diesel sales taxes will rise by 4 points to 13 percent.

Californians will also have to pay a fee of $25 to $175, depending on the value of their vehicle, when they renew their registration next year. Zero-emission vehicle owners will pay $100 per year starting in 2020 since they don’t pay gas taxes.

The gas tax increase passed with support from nearly all legislative Democrats and one Republican, capping a yearslong effort by Gov. Jerry Brown to line up support for a dedicated source of road maintenance dollars.

The measure has emboldened Republicans, who have watched their influence diminish as California tilts increasingly to the left. They see higher gas taxes as a winning election issue that could motivate their base and win over voters frustrated with California’s high cost of living.

Republicans put the gas tax at the center of a campaign to recall Sen. John Newman, a Fullerton Democrat who narrowly won his seat last year. Republican candidates for governor and for Congress are backing competing initiatives to repeal the gas tax, one of which would also require voter approval for any future increases.

Californians already pay some of the highest gas prices in the country. On Tuesday, California’s statewide average of $3.04 per gallon was about 57 cents higher than the national average and the highest in the continental U.S., according to AAA.

And in the how not to get out of a marriage column.

Pakistani bride trying to poison husband accidentally kills 17 of her extended family members

Quote

That's when Shahid Lashari, the new bride's boyfriend who she continued secretly dating after she was married, provided Bibi with a poisonous substance, which she mixed into milk and tried to serve to him.

Her husband refused to drink it, but Bibi's mother-in-law later spotted the tainted beverage and used it to make lassi, a traditional yogurt-based drink, which she then served to 27 people.

Sadly, all 27 of the family members who consumed the beverage fell ill and were hospitalized. Seventeen died and ten are still receiving medical attention, the Associated Press reported.

He’s not lovin’ it.

The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. at a McDonald's in Warren, a small town in Northeast Ohio.

JFK files link MLK Jr. to multiple affairs, say he possibly fathered child out of wedlock

A dossier on Martin Luther King Jr. claims the civil rights leader possibly fathered a child out of wedlock, and had an affinity for orgies.

The data, part of the JFK files recently released by the National Archives, also includes the assertion that singer Joan Baez was among the multiple women with whom King allegedly had affairs, the New York Daily News reported.

Described in the 20-page report is a "two-day drunken sex orgy in Washington, D.C." that was linked to an event that King attended, the Washington Examiner reported.

The dossier cites information obtained from “a responsible Los Angeles individual,” who was said to be a relative of King’s alleged lover -- who was described as the wife of a prominent black dentist. The source said King may have fathered a baby girl with the woman, the Daily News reported.

The informant was said to have met King in 1960, and claimed that King had affairs with multiple women, including Baez.

A man in Chicago paid a hefty price when he tried to rob a hot dog stand —  he accidentally shot himself in the penis during the getaway.

Terrion Pouncy, 19, held two employees of Maxwell Street Express at gunpoint early Monday morning, demanding that they hand over their wallets and the restaurant's cash, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

At the time of the robbery, one of the victims reportedly had been carrying a large bucket of grease. With the gun pointed at his head, the employee was trying to hand over a stack of $1 bills but the bucket slipped and the money flew out of his hands.

Pouncy grabbed the fallen money and started to run away while trying to secure his gun at his waist. But as he fled, the gun accidentally went off and shot him in the penis, the Sun-Times said.

The thief didn’t make it very far before the pain of his injuries took over and he collapsed in front of a house nearby.

He was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was later arrested by the Chicago Police and charged with two counts of armed robbery, the Sun-Times said.

As of Thursday, he was reportedly still in the hospital and unable to attend a bond hearing. The judge ordered him held without bond.
